Interview with Turn Around Music Director!!

Turn   Round __ chance for musicians in Tanzania

Stand first: A Music school set up in Dar es Salaam is set to change the face of music in this country by introducing professional courses of international standards. Exactly how does the school Turn Round intend to turn it around for the musicians of this country? Deogratias Kishombo talked to Noah Omolo the Music Director of the Academy.

Blurb: Facts about TMA

·         It offers tuition at a very subsidized rate thus providing learning opportunities for as many people as possible
·         Training individuals who do not necessarily have to sit for exams
·         Training and preparing candidates who want to be awarded certificates by VETA

ARE you looking for a music school: Think of Turn Round Music Academy (TMA) here in Dar-es-Salaam. “We are going to make your dreams come true”, its slogan promises.
      Located in the Mikocheni area alongside the old Bagamoyo road, the school aims to fulfill the government mission of eradicating poverty, ignorance and diseases.

“We want to develop musical talent in Tanzania and we would like them to know how to play written music as well as playing by ear to a professional degree”
We will do this by providing music education to Tanzanians with necessary qualifications without tribal, gender, color or religious discrimination.
It offers numerous courses such as piano, guitar, trumpet, violin, flute, music theory (reading and sight playing), voice training, percussion course and drum set and saxophone.
The school applies the classical approach (British syllabus) Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Grades 1-8 well  as the modern approach London college of music (LCM).
Established in May this year, the school expects that the implementation of a strategic plan will enable it to register over 1000 students by the year 2011. Only after two months, it has registered 30 students.
           We teach all kinds of instruments, guitar, keyboard, trumpet, music theory, sight playing, voice training, staff notation, tonic sol-fa and so on, said Noah Omolo the school music Director on Tuesday. Omolo studied music at the University of Nairobi and in Paul Valery University in Montpellier in southern France.
             He said that they have decided to bring the music school to Dar es Salaam due to the fact that there are not many good music academies in Tanzania compared to Nairobi in Kenya.
We want to develop musical talent in Tanzania and we would like them to know how to play written music as well as playing by ear to a professional degree.
Mr. Omolo said that the school offers skills for beginners, intermediate and advance level for music learners who would like to be equipped with knowledge in order to perform better in their careers.

We have about 30 students from all backgrounds; secular, religious, working class, and students

From all backgrounds secular, religious, working class, student, etc he said
He added that they have students who study music here because of leisure and others who want to take it up as a serious business.
According to Omolo the turnout of students  is very encouraging with about 180 students who have so far expressed an interest in  this institution and of these about 30 have already enrolled.
The staff of Turn round has formed a music group and has gone to several institutions to perform live and explain what they do.
They have appeared at the laureate International School and Dar e s salaam International School.
"Many schools are going to form partnerships with us with a view to us teaching at their schools or them bringing students to our school." Said Omolo
The school intends to expand and move to other campuses as demand grows, also to form live bands to perform both gospel and secular music which will be performing in many diverse occasions.
"We also intend to build recording studios and record all up coming   musicians  and performing artists as we train musicians to do international  exams like those of the Associated Board of the Royal  Schools of Music of London" Omolo said
The music director also said that the school was to train musicians to prepare for the famous
Tusker Project Fame and Bongo Star search.

Make a Home Made Motor--Helicopter!!!

Hi readers,

This week I have been working on a helicopter project and building motors. I have integrated the two into one large project.

The chopper I am designing is still at the prototype stage. I want to first build a small model and then I will be able to know if a bigger model will be fees-able in terms of weight and strength of the motor...

I took two fridge magnets in this project and winded a coil and designed its support. I bored a hole through a block of Styrofoam and carved the shape of the fuselage with a knife. I taped the two magnets opposite each other, and placed the supports in the bored hole. I then put the coil inside the vicinity, put some power to it but sadly the motor did not run on 2 1.5V batteries...

The Motor Coil made up of
Copper Wire.

The Base of the Fuselage with the Coil
inserted in the vacinity.

...I will troubleshoot to find out where I went wrong but I am hopeful that the project will work out and who knows maybe I will be able to design a bigger model which will carry 2 9V batteries for its power and a radio or remote sensor to control the speeds. If that becomes successful I will study the full workings of choppers and I could design a model that can move to different places and can do recon work with the aid of a powerful camera...

...This is all possible... here is the link to the site I used for the design of the motor:

Motor Design - Build your own electric Motor.

...I am also looking for people who are interested in this so that we can work together to design something exceptional...

This Week is Paper Week...

while paper planes are fun for young boys and girls, there are some folding activities for older people and youth...

THIS is THE great JAPANESE art of ORIGAMI!!

I found a good site and I myself am planing on getting into it because {don't laugh} I was never any good at it. It is a beautiful art form where you can create swans, people and beautiful flowers from it...

If you have a sick loved one you can write a get well message and fold it in a special design to cheer them up at the same time showing that you care. You can send your girlfriend a rose folded origami when you want to take her out. It is a very delicate gift that will be sure to touch her heart because no one she has been with would have thought of that.

Origami needs patience to learn. here are a few sites that I ran into:

Site 1.

Site 2.

...With deep interest you can make a whole scene with origami for instance you can create a village folding huts, people, trees, etc. DO NOT LIMIT YOURSELF!!

Fly----Paper.....Plane!!

Paper planes have always bin my favorite thing while growing up. I will always remember as a kid I once took 4 A3 papers and taped them together in order to make 1 Gigantic PaPeR PLANE!! It was massive and I painted the American flag on it, I remember showing it to my Dad and he said, "why don't you put a Tanzanian Flag??"...

While browsing on the net I came across a useful site that I am sure many young people would like to see.... YES u GueSSED it..

A Paper Plane fold out site where you can download templates to fold various designs of paper planes... You can have fun with this site by folding different types of planes with your friends and comparing which flies better, or if you are a collector and you fold the different kinds to hang them from the ceiling or to decorate your walls with them. Painting designs on them would make it even more interesting. with no further ado, here it the Link:

<^BannApple Smoothie^>

Have 2 bananas!!!

...the famous jungle book quote.

Quench your thirst with a healthy tasty smoothie. Scientifically fructose is a kind of sugar that is very useful for the human body it is not like sucrose in which if you exceed its use u can have problems. Fructose is very natural sugar found in fruits...
Smoothies are thick liquid fruit mixes made by blending fruits together... In our smoothies we prefer not to add sugar because they are naturally sweet.

All you need are (serving 2-3 glasses):

-> 1 mixer.
-> measuring jar. (there are Mixers which come with jars, These are proper smoothie machines)
-> a knife.
-> an apple.
-> 2 bananas.
-> cold drinking water.

What to do:

-> peal the apple and chop pieces into the measuring jar.
-> peal the bananas and chop them into the measuring jar.
-> mix the fruit together.
-> add drinking water till the smoothie is semi thick.
-> blend and drink!!!

... Feel free to experiment with different fruit combinations like pawpaws, oranges and watermelons.. etc.
... Enjoy!!!

TiCkLe Ure TaSTeBuddZzz

Hi Readers...

sometimes we find ourselves at home and have nothing interesting to do. I decided to cook a dish I had Neva cooked before or even seen in the papers, I can say I'm a decent cook and the sauce turned out just right. I decided to cook a chicken sauce dish which can be eaten with chips, pasta or rice. The ingredients are (for a serving of four):

=> One ckicken
=> 2 regular sized onions
=> 3 tomatoes
=> 1 greenpepper
=> 1/2 lemon
=> tomato sauce
=> Spur Seasoning Salt Original & Spicy
=> Babbecue Spice
=> A pinch of Salt (1/2 tea spoon)

... These are the main ingredients, you can add spices of your choosing to get a different flavour.

Cooking...

1. Defrost the chicken and separate all bones so that you are left only with the meat.
2. Cut the chicken into sizable chunks.
3. Prepare and chop up the tomatoes, onions, and green pepper.
4. Put some vegetable or olive oil into the saucepan and let it heat up a bit.
5. Fry the onions first until they are slightly brown.
6. Add the tomatoes and mush them into a stew.
7. Add the boneless chicken pieces into the mixture and let it cook for 5-7 minutes.
8. Keep adding water when the sauce dries.
9. Now add the green pepper to the mix with the spices, salt and tomato sauce.
10. Squeeze the lemon into the mix filtering out the seeds with a sift.
11. Cover the sauce and let it shimmer for 2 min.
